Janet Othero offers a vibrant, sound and commercial- focussed approach to the Telecommunications, Media and Technology department.

She has broad-based experience and knowledge and offers diligent, efficient, systematic and time-sensitive expertise to various technology clients which assist them in successfully achieving their objectives. She has previous experience in other practise areas that have proved useful in offering holistic legal services for a wide range of clients. She has been highly involved in and has deputised high-value complex project developments and hence has a strong foothold in all the attendant issues such as compliance, tax, and regulatory compliance.

Janet’s expertise in fintech, regtech, cyber resilience advisory, and data privacy governance has seen her engage with entities ranging from government bodies, financial institutions to start-ups. This has enabled her to appreciate the ecosystem that is the TMT sector that continues to be dynamic with innovations being done in a pace that legislation is unable to keep up with. Consequently, she has been invited to speak on various professional platforms about regulatory and legal issues in the TMT space locally and regionally. Janet is one of the few privacy practitioners in Kenya who have received training and certification relating to GDPR. She is also a certified Data Protection Officer. This comes in handy when advising our clients on the recently enacted Data Protection Act in Kenya. Janet continuously publishes in the firm’s Above Standard Newsletter as well as in other regional and international sites such as the CIO and Afriwise.

She is listed in the Legal 500, 2020 edition, as a rising star lawyer in the Banking, Finance and Capital Markets.
