As 2021 comes to a close, TripleOKLaw Advocates LLP is signing off for the holidays. It has been a successful year of growth for us so we thought we would share some reflections and what has been keeping us busy.

We had new faces joining us in our different departments that being Alex Nyororo as an Associate in the Corporate and Commercial team, Christian Andole an Associate in the Dispute Resolution team, Daniel Muroki joining Real Estate and Banking practice and a team of ten pupils who have trained in the different departments.

We also celebrate some wins this year being ranked in the The Legal500 EMEA Rankings as a Leading Law Firm 2021. Our practice expertise was also noted by being listed in five categories with seven lawyers ranked as Recommended Lawyers in various practice areas. All this was topped off with Managing Partner John Ohaga being listed as a Leading Individual 2021. Read more on what makes us tick at TripleOKLaw LLP Advocates The Legal500 EMEA 2021.

We were also ranked as a Leading Firm in Chambers and Partners Global 2021 for our Dispute Resolution and Arbitration practice and listed as top experts in Chambers and Partners FinTech Guide 2021 and 2022 with our Telecommunications, Media and Technology team making a third time feature. We were proud to feature in the African Legal Awards 2021 by UK|Legal Week and were shortlisted in four categories. We acknowledge that it is no small feat to be recognized among the top practitioners on the continent and are honoured to stand out in a year with record entries.

TripleOKLaw LLP participated in various events, webinars and conferences all year long amongst them being the Deloitte Data Protection Webinar that had Partners Catherine Kariuki and Janet Othero from our TMT practice sharing insights on the progress made in adopting the Data Protection Act 2019. The Africa Arbitration Day 2021 had our Managing Partner, John Ohaga discussing Court Annexed Mediation and Associate, Leyla Ahmed moderating the discussion on Arbitration in Banking and Finance Disputes. October also saw our TMT team lead the firm in marking the Cyber Security Week which is observed to raise awareness on data privacy, cyber resilience and all matters cyber security.

We also took the time to publish various articles and legal alerts so as to keep our clients informed of any germane developments in law. Top on our reading list is The Environmental and Climate Law Review by our Climate Change and Sustainability Practice headed by Partner Stephen Mallowah and assisted by Associate Christopher Oyier. The publication will keep you up to speed on the developments in environmental law as the world moves closer towards sustainable business and compliance. The promotion of the Data Protection Act 2019 was this year boosted by the release of the Data Protection General Regulations which were  analysed in depth by our TMT practice led by Partner Catherine Kariuki.

These are just but highlights of the year and more articles are available at

This year we also launched our legal podcast TOK Talk Podcast. This is a legal podcast featuring candid conversations of thought-leaders from various industries who debunk complex issues. Each episode is thought provoking and aims to help you relate and apply the law to your everyday life. The podcast can be accessed on your favourite podcast platforms including Spotify, Google Podcast, Apple Podcast and Cast box as TOK Talk Podcast.

We had many reasons to celebrate this year, and the biggest highlight was definitely being ranked number 39 in the Africa Top 50 2021 that recognises and ranks the biggest law firms in Africa with the full list available at . We also celebrated members of our staff like Noreen Kidunduhu for being appointed as the Board Secretary of Kenya Green Building Society, Cynthia Opakas for graduating with a Masters in International Energy Law and Policy with distinction from the University of Dundee and Leyla Ahmed from graduating with a Masters in International Trade and Investment Law in Africa with distinction from the University of Pretoria.

We are very grateful to our clients and partners for supporting us in achieving all this. We are now off to recharge and will be back to continue achieving greatness by going over and above next year.
